Call of the Wild is the newest movie from 20th Century Fox (now called 20th Century Studios) based on the legendary book by Jack London. This movie follows Buck, a dog who after getting taken from his California home and transplanted to the exotic wilds of the Alaskan Yukon in the 1890s. As the newest rookie on a mail-delivery dog sled team, Buck experiences the adventure of a lifetime as he ultimately finds his true place in the world.
The Good
What I liked was that the movie didn’t feel like another dog movie you have seen a thousand times and really just told a fun story about finding yourself and adapting to situations while using the dog as a vessel of travel. The locations in this film are all shot in beautiful wilderness locations from vast grassy mountains to icy frozen lakes, if you are looking for a movie with a pretty scenery, this movie has it.

Another thing I enjoyed is it had many different side stories like working with a team of sled dogs on a mail route to hiking and canoeing along the Yukon to find where nobody has been before. It helps to get you to the end of the movie without getting bored and I really appreciated that.
The Bad
My flaws with the movie are that the human characters are kind of pushed to the side in favor of our CGI protagonist which is a real shame due to the fact that they brought Harrison Ford into this and really didn’t utilize him as much as the trailers hinted at, as in the trailers they strongly followed Ford’s character where as in the actual movie he become a main character in the last 30 minutes of the hour and a half film. Another flaw is the villain is just plain awful. He is extremely unlikable even for an antagonist and his motives are not really justified where with some villains you can relate to them in some way, this one just plain sucks.
Overall
Even though the human characters are very underutilized, this movie still has a fun story and a ton of heart that makes for an enjoyable time.
